Mollie Massie creates her unique art forms by cutting, shaping and welding pieces of steel together. Her sculptures are both practical and beautiful and range from coat racks to end tables, chandeliers to candlesticks. She appreciates primitive styles, but gives them her own contemporary stamp. Her design ideas are influenced by a variety of sources including Native American cultures and artistic traditions.

Massie begins each project by drawing a design on paper. She then transfers it onto a sheet of weathered steel and cuts out the shapes with an oxyacetylene torch. Subjects in her pieces might include scenes from nature, animals or human figures-whatever inspires her at the time.
